Long Weekend Travel Tips

passport-933051_960_720Long weekends are some of the best times to travel, whether you’re going to another city close by or a neighbouring country. There are plenty of ways you can make the most of a getaway even though you only have a few days to enjoy it! It’s important to plan it out even a little so you don’t waste any extra time planning the trip as you go along. A little spontaneity is great, but when you’re dealing with a long weekend getaway, your time is a bit more limited than usual. Here are just a few tips on making the most of your long weekend travel plans.

Check Traffic

This is especially important if you on taking the road trip approach to your long weekend trip. Check ahead of time what the traffic will be like so you can anticipate how long it will take you to get to your destination. This will also be important in figuring out how long it will take you to get to any borders you might have to cross, and account for the time that it takes to be processed to cross etc. A successful long weekend getaway is all about timing and scheduling, and while you have to account for travel time nobody wants to spend the bulk of their trip being on the road.

Keep Travel Documents Handy

Organization is another key to planning a long weekend trip with ease. Things like passports, hotel itineraries, event or attraction tickets are all things that you should keep close at hand so you can access it quickly and easily. Making sure you can get to these items fast will save you more time than you realize along the way. Tons of time can be lost in trying to search for things that you could have had all together. They might be in different parts of your luggage, or even forgotten at home; forcing you to find another way to display them for entry or proof or purchase. Avoid this by printing out any necessary documents and putting them together alongside your passport and in a spot in your luggage or car that is easy to get to when you need it, but still secure enough to keep it safe.pexels-photo

Know The Rules

Knowing the rules of the road when crossing borders is something that can save you tons of time and prevent you from having an issues as your make your journey.  It’s important to remember that, especially when crossing any respective borders by car, you might have items in your car that you can’t bring with you. Certain tools, chemicals, sporting equipment or other supplies that people routinely store in their car might be risky items to bring over the border. When in doubt, consult your respective border control agency’s website or information line; where you can typically find information about the things you’re able to bring with you as well as the things you’re able to bring back.
